Carnegie Center 5K & Fun Run for The Parkinson Alliance
The 8th annual Carnegie Center 5K (and 1 Mile Fun Run) for The Parkinson Alliance (CC5K) was held on Saturday, September 29th.
This year's event was supported by a record number of corporate sponsors including Interpool, Inc., Yardville National Bank, Tyco, Boston Properties, GE Healthcare, Kyowa Pharmaceuticals, The Residence Inn, Washington Group International, NRG Energy, The Ruderman Family, Akros Pharma, Lawrence Shopping Center, NAI Fennelly, Covance Charitable Foundation, Sandoz, Inc., All Clean Building Services, Landscape Maintenance Services, United Fire Protection Corp. & The Hyatt Regency Princeton. In addition, this year the CC5K committee introduced a Community sponsorship level which was well received by the following area companies - Americorp, Bank of Princeton, The Brickman Group, Can Do Fitness, Environ, Gift Connection, Herrick Feinstein LLP, Land Design by ADP, Morgan Lewis Bockius LLC, OM Solutions, Onorati Construction, PJ's Pancake House and Sotto Ristorante. The Parkinson Alliance received over $45,000 in donations from these generous corporate sponsors.
The weather conditions were absolutely perfect for the more than 400 runners & walkers. The 1 mile fun run began at 9:00 taking the 80 runners and walkers through the scenic grounds within Carnegie Center. At 9:30, 378 runners set themselves at the starting line for the start of the 5K road race. Michael Spence was the first male finisher of the 3.1 mile course in a course record of 14:44 (an amazing 4:45 per mile pace) and Jenna Fasulo was the first female finisher in 19:51.
All 5K participants received a beautiful long sleeve burnt orange t-shirt. During our post race party participants of the 5K and fun run enjoyed delicious food (i.e. pizza, hoagies, fruit, bottled water) generously donated by Eurest Dining Services and had opportunity to win 1 of more than 20 door prizes (i.e. gift certificates, autographed sports memorabilia, tickets, etc.) that were donated by local businesses and sports teams. In addition, complimentary massages were offered to race participants.
Dr. Rocco Ballerini of Kyowa Pharmaceuticals was presented the King Award in recognition of Kyowa's continued support of The Parkinson Alliance. In addition to its sponsorship, Kyowa Pharmaceutical has honored The Parkinson Alliance with an additional grant of $1,000 in celebration of the company’s New Drug Application (NDA) filing for istradefylline, a novel treatment for the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease. Over 100 trophies were awarded to the top 3 overall male & female finishers, top 3 male & female finishers in 14 different age groups, and the top 3 teams in the open & corporate divisions.
