KINGSTON, N.J., August 10, 2017—The Parkinson Alliance announced today that the 18th Carnegie Center 5K and One-Mile Fun Run will take place on Saturday, September 23, 2017, in Princeton, NJ. The annual 5K road race which is sanctioned and certified by the USA Track & Field and one-mile fun run is expected to bring together hundreds of supporters to raise awareness and funds for Parkinson’s disease research. Event proceeds support Parkinson’s disease research.

Since the inception of our race, we have raised over $1,000,000 in donations for research into Parkinson’s disease. “Together, we can do great things. With the help of our supporters, last year's event raised over $110,000 in donations and broke fundraising records. Every bit of support counts and we invite all runners and walkers to join this year’s event,” stated Martin Tuchman, Chairman of The Parkinson Alliance.

Parkinson’s disease is a chronic and degenerative neurological disorder that affects at least one million people in the U.S., and approximately 60,000 cases are newly diagnosed each year. “Our annual family-friendly race is a way for our community to come together and show support for those who are living with Parkinson’s disease,” said Carol Walton, CEO of The Parkinson Alliance. “Sign up for our competitively scored 5K race or join our one-mile fun run, and enjoy additional festivities. We will have massages, team photos, face painting, moon bounces, refreshments, and door prizes. Visit the Parkinson’s Information booth and meet with a movement disorders specialist, as well as our sponsors who will have educational information on Parkinson’s therapies and resources,” added Walton.

At the event, Borden Perlman will receive the King Award for their support of the Parkinson’s disease community over the years. The King Award recognizes a group’s or an individual’s dedication and commitment to the Parkinson’s disease community, was created in memory of Joseph G. Fennelly, a generous philanthropist and long term volunteer of The Parkinson Alliance, and is presented annually by The Parkinson Alliance at the Carnegie Center 5K. Borden Perlman has not only been a sponsor of our race since 2008 but has also been a long-standing supporter of additional Parkinson Alliance events over the years. Located in Ewing, NJ, Borden Perlman is a leading insurance provider for individuals, businesses, and organizations, and serves clients in the 48 continental states. In addition to their almost 100 years of experience in the insurance industry, Borden Perlman actively contributes to community development and takes leadership roles in various charities, programs, and functions—including for the Parkinson’s disease community.

To date, this year’s event is supported by over 40 sponsors, including Boston Properties who is the host of our event, Berkshire Bank, Taiho Oncology, Abbott, Borden Perlman, Medtronic, NRG Energy, and Palumbo Associates. In-kind sponsors include Corner Bakery Café, Eurest, Massage Envy, Rita’s Water Ice, Starbucks, and Witherspoon Media Group.
